I was sippin an iced coffee when suddenly...

Why do people wear vintage clothing?
Why do people wear clothing modeled after vintage clothing?
Why do people utilize pop culture and throw-back logos on clothing and other apparel?

Nostalgia? Counterculture attitudes? An unconscious protest against the present way of life?

Whatever the reason, by doing so I think people are taking part in Shakespeare's concept of the world as a stage. From As You Like It:

"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts"

Vintage clothes transform people into players, depicting characters from past decades. I guess we all are actors based on the clothes we wear, playing our parts. Or is it the part that makes the clothing?

The world as a stage is a constant commentary on the transience of "reality" and the ease with which we can mold it. When we presume the role of an mid-80's teenager based on our clothing, what is this saying about the stability of our realities. We are constantly playing with reality and poking fun at it. I guess that's our instinctual reaction to a concept that is everchanging, and one which we can never grasp. You gotta laugh at it or else it hurts too much.
